You’ll find that when some gardeners refer to perennials, they are often only discussing flowering shrubs or other low-growing plants. However, many familiar plants are also classified as perennial plants. Here are some of the most popular:

  • Flowering Perennials. Perennial flowers are extremely popular, forming the backbone of many home garden designs. Try planting flowers that bloom at different times of the year, creating a changing landscape of colours throughout the seasons.
  • Trees and Shrubs. All trees and shrubs are perennial plants. You only have to plant them once, and although some go dormant in Winter, they will continue to grow from the same root structure you first planted. A well-cared-for tree may live for decades.
  • Indoor Plants. Many of the most popular indoor plants, including all ferns and palms, are also perennial in nature. Their reliable consistency and year-round foliage make them sought after for interior design, especially in commercial spaces.
